In 2018 the world market in plastics for aerospace applications may reach a value of 10.5 billion dollars, as opposed to 6.2 in 2011, with a projected volume of nearly 88,000 tons. This is one of the results of a recent study by the US firm Transparency Market Research (TMR).

The positive trend would be supported, in particular, by the increasing use of plastic in the construction of aircraft. The most recent models have up to 50% of their primary structure in plastic. The objective is to reduce weight while improving performance. The materials finding greatest application are plastics reinforced with glass, carbon or aramid fibres.
