The Indian Plastics Federation (IPF, www.plasticfederation.org) plans to open a training centre in eastern India to address shortages of skilled technicians in that part of the country. The 2.2 million-dollar facility should open in 2014 and train up to 300 students a year.
In addition to training, the 40,000 square foot facility will likely have product testing labs, a design centre and auditorium space for events.
The plans for the centre in eastern India follow the announcement by PlastIndia Foundation, owner of India's largest plastic trade show, for a larger training centre in the western part of the country (50 acres, 25 million dollars) targeted to managers.
IPF Chairman, Amar Seth, confirmed that the smaller training centre will be located on one acre of land donated by the West Bengal government, and funded by both government grants and IPF income from the IndPlas trade show (Kolkata, October 5-8, 2012).
