Aquafil, Italian manufacturer of polyamide 6 fibres, is to become the leading supplier of polyamide yarn to Suminoe Textile, a Japanese company that manufactures textile coverings for the furnishing, automotive and transport sectors. This is what is stipulated in an agreement between the two companies, which, signed on May 14, also envisages collaboration on the development of new products and collections, and even joint marketing activities related to these. For the Italian company, this is a way of entering the Japanese market, taking advantage of its connection with an established and well-structured organisation to increase its presence in Asia.

“This agreement has, for us, opened the door to the complex and interesting Japanese market. As a result we will be able to increase our market position in Asia, but also to embark on a meaningful collaboration, not only on the commercial side, with one of the sector’s leading global players”, declared Giulio Bonazzi, CEO of Aquafil.

Since 1969, Aquafil has been one of the leading producers, both in Italy and globally, of  polyamide 6 fibres. Today it is present in three continents with 15 plants and a workforce of 2,700 people and it operates through two product business units: BCF, synthetic fibres for textile flooring; NTF, synthetic fibres for the clothing and sports sectors. Established in 1983, Suminoe Textile manufactures and sells textile coverings. The company operates not only in Japan but also in the rest of Asia and in North America.
