According to a recent study conducted by Petcore Europe, PET was the most recycled polymer in 2012 in Europe, with a volume equal to over 60 billion bottles. As reported by the study, more than 52% of the PET material delivered to the market in the old continent was recycled, reaching an overall volume of nearly 1.7 million tons which correspond to a 5.6% increase against 2011.
As for the use of the recycled material,  the first place has been taken by fibres, followed by bottles and plates. In addition, the increase in the share of recycled PET in 2012 has contributed to boosting the utilisation rate of recycling plants, which for quite a time had operated well below their maximum capacity, at an average of 80%.
