At Plast 2015, BMB (Hall 22, stand A 101/B 102) will showcase its fully electric eKW 38Pi/2200 injection machine producing a 10-litre plastic bucket weighing 300 grams. Also on display is an eKW 16Pi/700, also completely electric. It is smaller but achieves a high rate of production, in this case making an espresso wafer using a 16-cavity mould on a 2.5-second cycle. The third machine featured at the BMB (headquartered in Brescia) stand is an eKW 85Pi/8500 Hybrid with electrical clamping and plasticization and hydraulic injection using hydraulic accumulators. This machine achieves high performance in high weight packaging: at the fair it will produce a containing weighing approximately one kilogram on a 20-second cycle.
Packaging represents BMB’s core business. Among the most recently developed packaging machines is a 700 t with a 4500 injection unit (Euromap) for a well known Danish company. It moulds thin-walled containers with a multi-cavity mould and very short cycle time. It is a large but fully electric machine with two torque motors on the injection unit and a central torque motor for the plasticization unit. It makes BMB a serious competitor with its top European counterparts. At this point, 80% of BMB machines are sold outside of Italy.
Another 2200-ton press in the Hybrid series, with electric clamping and drawing and hydraulic injection using accumulators, will produce large containers having thinner-than-standard walls for a Spanish company. And it may be one of the largest electrical machines ever, at least in Europe. Two large electric motors are placed near the toggle joint to move it.
