The European Thermoforming Division (ETD) of the SPE celebrates 20 years of excellence in serving the European thermoforming industry and this milestone has been marked at the 10th thermoforming conference held in Sitges (Barcelona) on March 10 and 11. The conference, which hosted about 250 participants, was entitled “Evolution - Thermoforming - Destination”, to analyze the past, the present and the future of thermoforming.
The SPE ETD started with a small gathering of professionals at the original conference held in Germany. This has grown to become a totally unique event able to attract visitors from all over the world and leaders from the thermoforming industry. The theme of this year conference has reflected not only what has happened over the past 20 years but also what foreseen for the future. Speakers from both Europe and Usa have reflected on their thermoforming company’s history and where they see the growth coming in the future. This has been a fascinating insight into major thermoformers history and forward looking plans.
3D printing has been another major topic as it is now becoming an important part of industry. Its impact is growing significantly and a number of companies have now embraced the technology. The conference has explored these and many new ideas. Plastic packaging has been a subject presented from not only the historical view but also the future expectations from material usage to design. Simulation programs used to replicate the forming process have been around for a period of time, however there are new and exciting developments in this field. Speakers at the conference has explained the innovations in this field. A parts competition, as well as technical training programs, have been integral part of the conference.
