An Italian chemical company producing hotmelt stickers and thermoplastic elastomers, Sipol cooperated on the project launched by Syntech Plastics for the production of protective face shields to be donated to medical practices and nursing homes. Syntech Plastics, a German injection moulding company that creates products mainly for the automotive, electronics and furniture industries, has diversified its production during the current health emergency by introducing a reusable and sterilizable protective face shield. The dedication of every party involved in the project was essential for the realization of the face shield: from the expertise in injection molding of Syntech Plastics to the technical support of ML Plastics and the various manufacturers of the engineering polymers used, including Sipol.

The support of the face shield is made in Sipolprene 72220, a TPEE copolyester-based thermoplastic elastomer produced by Sipol. The flexibility of this material has made it the ideal choice for protection devices that fit perfectly the operator’s head without losing efficiency over time. The mechanical performance of these copolymers, the possibility of sterilization and the suitability for food contact according to both FDA and EU10/2011 certifications were decisive features in the choice of Sipolprene for this item. Sipol SpA collaborated on Syntech Plastics’ initiative by donating the amount of Sipolprene 72220 needed to produce the first 10,000 protective, reusable and sterilizable face shields.
