The aims of Tec Med - Integrated technology for medical appliances, which took place on September 24 and 25 by Engel Italia and A Uno Tec, at the head offices of the same at Mirandola, near Modena, were to provide an insight into the production processing, share common efficiency goals for the improvement of the quality of operation, products and competitiveness, develop reliable synergy and business cohesion for the promotion of the innovation of the production systems and develop new projects. The event was conceived as an opportunity for meeting and exchange in order to present advanced system and technology solutions for injection moulding of medical articles, for metal 3D printing and the assembly of plastic components.
Thanks to the coordination of Massimiliano Testi, business field manager medical of Tüv Rheinland, the participation of leading partners such as Concept Laser (specialized in 3D printing and traditional metalworking), Moretto (auxiliary equipment supplier), Eurostamp (mould manufacturer) and Frigel (cooling systems and temperature controllers), Tec Med has become a meeting point for the industry featuring exhibition areas and practical demonstrations in order to provide adequate response to the continual demand for innovation in the production process of medical-surgical devices. These two days of meetings and exchanges held in the heart of one of the most important bio-medical districts of Europe, saw the invitation of about 150 guests and benefited by the full collaboration of all the companies involved.
The Engel victory 330/80 tiebarless press - exhibited in operation, complete with a Viper 6 extraction robot, again by Engel, and conveyor belt integrated within the guards, take the form of a compact manufacturing cell perfect for the clean room. Thanks to an 8-cavity mould provided by Eurostamp the machine is capable of producing the PMMA/ABS cap of a drip chamber for a transfusion and infusion line, in a mere 15 seconds. The parts with the sprue were picked up by the robot and then separated and positioned on the belt. The absence of the tiebars and the wide platens means that it is possible to mount large sized moulds on a small 80-ton press. The machine was equipped with a feeder, transport, drying and dosing system supplied by Moretto, that was present at the event with its own motorhome, parked in the area alongside the A Uno Tec factory area, thereby concluding in Mirandola the “tour of Italy” it began on September 14. The mould cooling and conditioning system were supplied by Frigel.
The director of the Engel medical division, Christoph Lhota, who outlined the main medical market trends in Europe and worldwide declared: “Although China and India are recording very high percentage growth rates, the most interesting markets in terms of volume remain the Usa, Europe and Japan”.
“We are truly satisfied with the event for a number of important reasons. The first being for the choice of Mirandola, which through the years has come to be the ‘capital’ of the major European bio-medical district. Furthermore because Engel has chosen A Uno Tec, that as well as always having great faith in these initiatives, is also a qualified, reliable and committed partner. Finally, because the event has offered its visitors a complete insight into the production technology used in the manufacture of a finished medical appliance; the granule treatment and transportation systems by Moretto, the injection moulding technology supplied by Engel, and the component assembly system by A Uno Tec, as well as the LaserCusing technology for mould production” stated Alberto Goldoni, sales manager of A Uno Tec.
