With their openRobotics project, Comau and B&R have introduced new scope for integration between robots, machines and production lines. The solution being suitable for the entire range of Comau robots which operate with a working load capacity of between 3 and 650 kg.

“Thanks to the uniform programming of each line component, including our robots” explained Tobias Daniel, the sales and marketing manager of Comau Robotics, “our international customers will benefit from a holistic approach in operations management, diagnostics and maintenance. There is no other solution like it on the market.” In fact traditionally robotics and machine tools have always relied on separate controls or gateways.

Thanks to openRobotics all the Comau robots in the world can be totally and perfectly incorporated on the machines and on the production lines complete with B&R automation components. “The client will simply have to select the Comau robot to be used in the Automation Studio programming environment. “Using mapp technology, the robot is easily integrated and perfectly synchronized into the machine automation software. Conventional solutions, with complex interfaces, will never be able to achieve the same degree of user-friendliness and performance.”

This project by the two companies, constitutes a single market solution. In terms of Industry 4.0, the natural and simple integration of peripheral automated systems such as robotics within the machine system, is a clear advantage both for both the OEMs and the end users.
