Sumitomo (SHI) Demag has set up a new subsidiary to service customers in the Italian market, effective May 1, 2018. As part of this measure, Sumitomo (SHI) Demag Italia will take over the tried-and-trusted workforce from its former Italian representation, Macam and employ additional personnel for sales, application technology and after-sales service. Roberto Sallemi, former owner and managing director of Macam with many years of experience in working with customers from the Italian market, was appointed manager of the Italian subsidiary in Turin.
Paolo Zirondoli, Director International Sales Sumitomo (SHI) Demag of Schwaig, Germany, explains: “We are investing in closeness to our customers, because we want to speed up our response times. Through this measure, we ensure fast-track communication and a direct connection to development, project planning and production in Germany. Our customers will benefit from our consultancy expertise in key segments such as medical engineering, packaging and automotive”.
“Building a strong base in Italy requires future-oriented investment in this complex market, and this can only be achieved by setting up our own subsidiary“, says Pietro Scattarreggia, Director Business Development Electronics & Medical at the injection moulding machinery manufacturer’s European headquarters.
Over the past few years, Sumitomo (SHI) Demag has significantly stepped up its presence in the Italian market. “Over the last three years, we have managed to increase our market share by threefold. This is the result of intensive sales efforts”, CEO Gerd Liebig explains. “The new subsidiary is the next logical expansion step. We have thought long and hard about ways of improving our processes and customer satisfaction, and finally decided that we need to set up a strong base in Italy, which is rooted in traditional structures but also invests in future-oriented service concepts and intensive consultancy“.
