European concern on safety

"Ninety percent of the machines inspected at the Italian border were stopped because they are unsafe" Mr Claudio Celata (Chairman of CEN/TC 145) said on May 19 2011, at the meeting held in conjunction with the Chinaplas trade show in Guangzhou.
CEN TC/145 is the Technical Committee that compiles the so-called harmonized standards defining risks and safety measures of plastics and rubber machines.
Furthermore, Celata reported to the audience of technicians, from some 80 Chinese manufacturing companies, that thus far the inspections have also focused only on Chinese-made machines because there are really very few injection moulding machines imported by other countries. He said the inspections are not an attempt by European equipment makers to put up non-tariff barriers to Chinese competitors: "If Authorities and enterprises decide in Europe to have safe workplaces, all machinery suppliers have to follow our regulations."
