Sorema mechanical recycling plant in Molise
A company operating in the circular economy and environmental sustainability sector for over thirty years and listed on the Euronext Growth Milan market (EGM), RES (Recupero Etico Sostenibile) recently started up a post-consumer rigid plastic packaging washing and granulation plant at its industrial site in Pettoranello del Molise (Isernia). Supplied by Sorema (Previero Group), the plant is based on a fully automated system, is equipped with optical sorters incorporating Tomra technology and is fed with PET, HDPE and PP bales pressed in the previous sorting phase, reaching a production capacity of 8,200 tonnes per year. The material is conveyed to the washing line and subjected to different mechanical and thermal processes to obtain top grade recycled flakes to be placed on the secondary raw materials market.
The investment, approved by the Italian Ministry of Ecological Transition in the framework of a 9.6 million euros co-financing project under PNRR (Italy’s national recovery plan), represents the second pillar of the company's industrial plan that sees the Pettoranello del Molise site included in the broader project of an integrated centre for the sorting, management, treatment and processing of recycled plastic into secondary raw materials and the recovery of process waste through conversion into pyrolysis oil destined for the plastics industry.
"We are proud to announce the start-up of our new plastics washing and granulation plant at Pettoranello del Molise. This plant represents a significant step in our commitment to circular economy and environmental sustainability. Thanks to a fully automated system, we will be able to bring approximately 8,200 tonnes per year of plastic to the market, meeting the growing demand for high-quality recycled polymer matrices. This investment, co-financed by the Ministry of Ecological Transition, underlines our dedication to technological innovation and the promotion of sustainable industrial processes. The Pettoranello del Molise site will become a benchmark for the management and processing of plastics, contributing significantly to the reduction of environmental impact," said Antonio Lucio Valerio, CEO of RES.
