Mr PET expands

Launched as a pilot project at selected supermarkets in 2007, Mr PET is a source-separated collection system for polyethyene terephthalate (PET) bottles. After this strictly local initial testing phase, the system is now gaining an international scope thanks to the contribution of the Corepla consortium, as announced in early July at the Mondovì (CN) convention.
Users equipped with magnetic personalized cards earn points by inserting PET bottles into "smart" machines that are able to recognize the materials. Hence, in addition to the environmental and economic benefits from collecting and recycling soft drink or mineral water bottles made of PET, the system also provides a direct incentive to encourage active participation.
