Cutting machines for thick pipes
The TRK/C cutting machines have been developed by Sica for processing thick HDPE and PP-R pipes without generating swarf. The workable thicknesses can even exceed the values specified in the technical standards regulating civil and industrial applications of pipes. The TRK/C 1200 Plus model, for instance, can cut polyethylene pipes with thicknesses of up to 100 mm, even though the EN 12201-2 standard on pressurized media pipes indicates a maximum wall thickness of 70 mm.
The cutting machines feature two working arms. One cuts the pipe, while the other is equipped with rollers that, in continuous contact with the pipe, increase the quality of the cut. The first arm has an idle circular blade which, compared with the knife tool, applies less force and generates less friction on the material, and improves penetration. The circular cutting blade on the first arm does not require angle or position adjustment on pipe diameter and thickness changeovers. The second arm is equipped with counter rollers that are always in contact with the pipe. This additional restraint (along with the usual clamps) prevents the pipe from flexing, as a result improving the overall rotor structure rigidity and the machine's cutting accuracy.
The TRK/C cutting machines are available with two types of semicircular pipe clamps: the traditional clamps, which must be changed when the diameter of the pipe is changed; and the universal clamps, which do not need to be changed when the pipe diameter changes. The latter solution is ideal for extrusion lines that produce pipes of different diameters. The absence of cutting swarf means that the machine is always clean and also more quiet - constantly running at less than 80 dB(A). The machine's sound insulation characteristics are also improved by the double soundproof doors of the rotor chamber, the fully shielded pipe clamps, and the sliding doors made of a sound-insulating engineering polymer. The cutting machine comes in nine different models covering all pipe diameters ranging from 16 to 2000 mm.
