The German market research firm Ceresana has estimated that before the end of 2020, the world market for engineered polymers should reach a value of 90 billion dollars, thanks mainly to increase in demand from the electronics and consumer goods markets, which together represent 25% of global demand, followed by the transportation and construction industries.
The fields of application of engineered polymers vary depending on geographical area and individual materials: in Eastern Europe and Asia, for example, the predominate segments are the automotive industry and consumer goods, respectively, while automobile components absorbs 35% of polyamide and consumer goods are the principal sector of application for ABS.
