Moog attended the SPS IPC Drives Italia trade show from May 28 to 30 at the exhibition grounds in Parma, Italy, an opportunity for the company to exhibit its “total solution”, combining electric, hydraulic and hybrid technologies, designed to meet all of its customers’ requirements.

The Moog stand at SPS featured live and interactive product demonstrations with support from its customer CMI Industries. CMI designs and manufactures applications for the plastics packaging industry, and collaborated with Moog to develop the use of the innovative Electrohydrostatic Activation System (EAS) for the plastics industry. Moog’s live display for this year also includes an application of the Electrohydrostatic Pump Unit (EPU), the technology that lies at the heart of the EAS, along with a wide array of Moog’s other motion control solutions.

Fabrizio Brandi, Moog Italiana’s marketing manager, commented: “Our ability to design and build unique, technology-neutral solutions prompted CMI Industries to collaborate with us on the development of a special powder press. This process requires high speed and precision, clean processing and high forces: all requirements that are difficult to achieve using only electromechanical technology. To meet CMI’s requirements Moog Engineers developed a customized version of the EAS. The innovative system combines the benefits of electrohydraulic and electromechanical technology, to provide a 90% reduction of the hydraulic fluid used and fewer components. The result fully met the customer’s expectations and the company experienced improved machine productivity due to reduced downtime, and simpler and faster maintenance, a reduction in the total cost of ownership and an environmentally friendly technology”.

This year’s Parma SPS also featured Moog’s Machine Controller (MC600), an advanced solution that forms part of Moog’s servo controller and software product offering.
