APPE, a producer of plastics bottles in Wrexham (United Kingdom) has announced on November 23 that it doubled the amount of PET bottles for this year's Beaujolais Nouveau, underlying the continuing growth in popularity of the format for wine packaging. The company considers this growth in demand reflects the results of a recent research from the consultancy Wine Intelligence which found that the PET bottle is the first alternative to glass for wine. APPE found that PET has characteristics making it more competitive in comparison with other materials in terms of reduced transportation costs, convenience and environmental benefits.
