According to figures released jointly on December 1 by the American Chemistry Council (ACC) and the Association of Postconsumer Plastic Recyclers (APR), plastic bottle recycling by US consumers increased almost 21,000 tons in 2009 (up 2%), to reach a record high exceeding 1.1 million tons for the year.
Since 1990 this amount has been constantly growing together with the recycling rate, that rose from nearly 1% to reach 28% in 2009.
