During the 4th international congress on biomaterials, known as the Biowerkstoff Kongress, which will take place in Köln (Germany) March 15-16, 2011, three biodegradable raw materials among five finalists will be awarded prizes by a qualified scientific jury. Notable among them is Palapreg, a thermoset resin by DSM, which contains the highest percentage (55%) of biodegradable material used so far in this market niche. Also worthy of mention is the French company Roquette, which has created a new fossil plastic material, Gaialene, used for packaging with high mechanical and thermal resistance.
