Icma San Giorgio has developed and recently supplied a line equipped with an MCM 140 co-rotating twin-screw extruder for the production of medical grade PVC-based compounds.
The customer had to produce new compounds, validated by CNR (the Italian Council for Researchers), without the use of DEHP and featuring chemical inertia to produce medical bags and blood devices with specific functional properties and, above all, without plasticizer migration. The co-rotating technology was selected as the best solution to provide important advantages in comparison with the conventional counter-rotating twin-screw technology used for PVC processing.
