In the early Nineties, Gamma Meccanica (Bibbiano, Reggio Emilia, Italy) started manufacturing the first machines to recover biodegradable materials, including PLA, mainly used in the packaging field. PLA recycling is a great challenge because the material degrades and cannot be reused if it has not been appropriately regenerated. To this end, Gamma Meccanica, working together with some leading food packaging companies, has developed the GM 90 and GM 105 lines to regenerate biodegradable polyolefins and the well-known Mater-Bi, produced by Novamont. The results fully meet customer requirements and prevent waste of the virgin material with significant economic advantages.
