Founded in 1956, Acqua Minerale San Benedetto spa is the preeminent Italian non-alcoholic beverage group. With its workforce of 2,000 employees, it boasts a production capacity in Italy of 17 million pieces a day and consolidated revenues of 865 million euros.
Underpinning the Group's continuous growth is a philosophy that might be summed up in the phrase "Resources for Life": learn from nature to create wellbeing through innovation, interpreting the needs of the consumer and uniting them with respect for the environment.
These values are what led San Benedetto to sign a voluntary agreement in 2009—and renewed last December—with the Ministry of the Environment. Among other things, the agreement calls for the production of PET bottles with reduced environmental impact through a reduction in weight and the use of R-PET, and for the promotion of PET recycling along the entire production chain. One of the results has been the design of a new generation of "eco friendly" bottles, the latest of which is the "Easy" bottle, the first compensated-CO2 bottle, which uses 30% regenerated plastic (R-PET).
