The new Latigloss 57 range of compounds based on aromatic polyamide (PPA) has been developed by Lati for applications that come into contact with hot water. Compared to PA66, this PPA resin offers excellent resistance to the hydrolytic and extractive action of hot water, even in the event of prolonged exposure over time. In this polymer, the natural absorption of moisture, typical of all polyamides, is highly reduced even at high temperatures. This allows the PPA to maintain its mechanical properties - even when submerged - and to preserve the original size of manufactured products, eliminating the risk of losses or malfunction due to swelling typical of wet PA.
Designed to be used in place of metal, these compounds are reinforced with 40 - 60% glass fibre. Replacing metal not only reduces costs, weight and the amount of processing needed, it also - and more importantly - eliminates a potential source of contamination and pollution for water. The new range of compounds, therefore, is used to make valves, mixers, tanks, taps, fittings and other components that come into contact with cold and, in particular, hot drinking water.
