Simona has developed a series of PE 100 RC (Crack Resistant) pipes to comply with the strict safety standards in force in the pipe market. The German PAS (Public Available Specification) standard 1075, in particular, requires stringent breakage tests lasting at least 8,760 hours (1 year) taking the form of stress cracking test of a specimen of raw material, a notch test on full walled piping and a point loading test with a sharp metal object.
The typical practice for installing simple PE pipes is to dig a trench and lay the pipes in a bed of sand to ensure that the walls of the pipes are not exposed to sharp objects that could damage the surface and eventually cause leakage.
The PAS 1075 standard simulates precisely such adverse conditions with the objective of ensuring an operational lifetime of the pipes of 100 years. For pipes installed using controlled drilling instead of a trench, Simona recommends the use of PE 100 RC SPC reinforced by an external protective polypropylene sheathing.
