Under the terms of an agreement signed last week, the Korean petrochemical group LG Chem will supply Italian company Versalis with metallocene linear low density polyethylene (mLLDPE), produced using its own patented technology for distribution on European markets.
The main uses for this metallocene co-polymer include agricultural and industrial films as well as stretch film for pallet packaging and cling film for the food industry. LG Chem's technology for metallocene catalysts aims to make film easier to extrude while at the same time increasing its tear load.
Versalis's background in the technical and commercial aspects of the industry has made it the ideal partner for LG Chem in its attempt to move into markets outside Asia, particularly in Europe.
