The Italian manufacturer of ancillary equipment Plastic Systems has recently installed a handling, compounding and storage system at the premises of an American compounder that supplies polyolefin-based plastics and engineering polymers based products for the electrical home appliance, automotive and electronic industries. The system features multiple feed lines capable of assuring the loading of 12 storage silos boasting a high degree of resource handling flexibility.
The stored products, which are conveyed downstream towards the extrusion lines, are then dosed according to predefined recipes towards the various feed mouths of each individual extruder. The extruded compound is then pushed towards a further storage area, which features various vertical mixers capable of conveying the polymer in dense phase inside big bags or towards a transportation unit through a series of specially designed screw feeders.
The system then finally conveys the end product to another 8 storage silos installed outside the plant. The end product can be unloaded through the effect of gravity onto lorries or vans for delivery to the end user, which in this specific case includes brand names such as Whirpool, Bosch, Siemens, Indesit, Karcher, Philips, Honeywell, Fiat Chrysler Automobilies, Volkswagen, Mercedes, Peugeot-Citroen.
The plant design assures the greatest degree of modular flexibility in the event of future expansion of the factory and assures a high degree of safety and total absence of any risks to the operator. The project also includes a supervision system for the central planning of all the material-machine combinations, as well as making it possible to track production lots, handle the raw materials, and also assuring the constant monitoring and traceability of each stage, therefore eliminating the risk of human error and permitting production analysis based on production logs.
