The SMC range of smart position sensors just got bigger thanks to the addition of the D-MP model, which ensures consistent and continuous accuracy and control. It is the first sensor in the SMC product portfolio capable of determining, at all times, the stroke position of air cylinders and providing continuous feedback.
D-MP is available with three types of output: analogue signal, IO-Link process data or flexible switching point. The analogue output of the actuator position has a voltage output range of 0–10 V and a current output of 4–20 mA, with all three outputs benefiting from four measurement modes within a range of 0 mm to 200 mm. Thanks to its functionality, D-MP allows a single actuator position sensor to replace multiple auto-switches, thereby reducing the number of components needed.
“Here at SMC we are always looking for ways to make our customers’ lives easier and to increase their operational efficiency. D-MP is an excellent example of how our company responds to the needs of the market, coming up with complete packages of solutions that cover actuators, sensors and applications”, says Dafne Parigi, product manager at SMC Italia.
Being IO-Link compatible, D-MP allows operators to access specific data and flag any problems with an internal error warning. The “plug and play” design ensures further efficiencies in cost and labour terms, reducing to a minimum the hardware requirement and thus the risk of programming errors.
The switching point offers normal and reversed outputs and four measurement modes -single point, auto switch, window and 2-point - with an On/Off position function, making it possible to define multiple switching points in the smallest of spaces.
D-MP lends
itself to a wide range of applications, for example measuring various
parameters including length and width discrimination, or screw-in depth of
machined holes. Furthermore, being IP67 certified, it can be used in hazardous
environments.
