The FDU (Flat Die Unit) was originally a research project that was developed with the know-how of Haidlmair Group companies with the support of the toolmaker from the Upper Austrian town of Nussbach. The innovation was presented to the public in 2016 and has been continuously developed ever since. For some time now the system has been ready for series production and has already demonstrated its advantages impressively in many Haidlmair tools.

The innovative hot runner system stands out for its optimised properties in terms of shear / heat, energy consumption, injection pressure and reduced cycle time. For example, the cycle time was reduced by up to 25% in several projects. The FDU is particularly suitable for use with polyolefins. However, recycled plastics have also been used in some projects and it has been shown that the advantages of the FDU are also relevant. Thus, the new hot runner technology can be used in many areas and it can deliver its special properties.

Until now the FDU was a product exclusively used by Haidlmair in their tools. With the founding of the new company FDU Hotrunner, the hot runner system is now also available to other companies for use in their tools. From now on, the employees of the new company will be at your disposal at our Frankenthal location, in the Rhineland-Palatinate region of Germany, for all questions concerning the FDU.

Managing Director Andreas Kissler (in the left in the picture with his team) has brought experts with years of experience in the hot runner business into his team. Kissler moved to Haidlmair in 2017 after working for a hot runner supplier for many years. As FDU manager, he was instrumental in the further development to series maturity. He sees the FDU Hotrunner as a logical consequence of the FDU optimisation: "Already in 2017 when I moved to Haidlmair I was very impressed by the system and saw its huge potential. Since then our team has optimised the FDU even more and made it more universally applicable. The first projects in series tools then proved us right, showing that we can achieve considerable added value for our customers. Now it is time to put the FDU on its own two feet and to launch it on the market. This is happening now with the FDU Hotrunner and we are already looking forward to many exciting projects in the future".

After the exhibition at the Moulding Expo in Stuttgart (May, 21-24), the technology can be experienced live at the K 2019 trade fair in Düsseldorf in October. In addition to some tools on various partner stands, Haidlmair's stand features a tool for a creased plastic pot, equipped with a newly developed FDU SLS (Slot Lock System).
