The launch of Xtreme Renew for producing preforms from rPET
On September 25, in the presence of Italian Environment Minister, Gianluca Galletti, and the president of Confindustria, Vincenzo Boccia, Sipa, at its headquarters in Vittorio Veneto (Treviso), launched Xtreme Renew, the world's first plant capable of producing preforms from 100% recycled PET.
Using this plant, which comprises the Xtreme system by Sipa and the Vacurema system by Erema, it is possible to use 100% recycled material to produce, in a single step, preforms for use in contact with foodstuffs, using flakes of post-consumer waste and without needing to produce granules first. Furthermore, the melt produced by Vacurema, which respects the regulations about contact with food, does not have to go through the intermediate cooling stage typically required in the production of granules, but runs directly into the Xtreme system developed by Sipa for the one-step production of preforms. The benefits of this direct solution are a large increase in energy efficiency and less thermal stress to the PET. As the minister, Galletti, pointed out, this is a very important system in both economic and environmental terms - a system that allows virtuous management of plastic in the era of the circular economy and the fourth industrial revolution, two strategic goals for the Italian industry that no longer regards the environment as a constraint, but rather as a source of opportunities to boost competitiveness.
“These are companies that are allowing us to see into the future: you are the symbol of an industry that is helping society to evolve” said Vincenzo Boccia.
This technology is evidence of the willingness of the Zoppas group, to which Sipa belongs, to invest in research and development in order to guarantee that its products stand out for their extremely high quality. Technological and process innovation, together with commitment to environmental sustainability, are the driving forces enabling this group to grow and become even more competitive on the international stage.
