Overevaluation of used extruders to tackle the dual transition

After the Industry 4.0 revolution, the manufacturing sector is preparing to face a new challenge: the dual digital and sustainable transition towards a production paradigm oriented towards circularity and the rational use of resources. A systemic change is necessary, according to the latest report by ESIR (European Strategic Industrial Research), to achieve the zero-emission target by 2050 set by the European Green Deal, while pursuing a vision aimed at fostering the European Union’s more sustainable competitiveness in the global market.
Despite the significant resources allocated by the European Union, the Industry 5.0 transition struggles to take off. One of the main obstacles identified by ESIR analysts is the access to EU funding, which is slowed down by complex bureaucratic procedures requiring the approval of the same project by several authorities in a sequential manner, further discouraging private investment. Although, in recent years, Europe has started to implement measures aimed at extending the scope of funding and application areas to new technologies, as in the case of the revision of the EU ETS directive to access the European Innovation Fund, the gap between the Industry 5.0 model and reality remains significant. Bridging this gap requires more agile policies at both local and supranational levels, more accessible funding instruments, and governance capable of supporting large-scale industrial innovation.

In response to this scenario, the Italian manufacturer of extrusion lines Bausano supports processors in the transition towards more efficient production processes with “Formula Reward”, which involves the overvaluation of used twin-screw MD series extruders to incentivise their replacement with next-generation models and renew the installed machinery with an immediate economic advantage. This initiative supports the circular economy, innovation, and higher energy efficiency levels.
Optimising processes also means adopting more sustainable practices, such as recycling and resource reuse. It is in this direction that Bausano’s initiative is placed: before withdrawal, the company’s expert team evaluates the condition of the extruder, offering up to 30% more than the machine’s market value in order to create a virtuous cycle that transforms obsolete machinery into new resources, in line with the principles of the circular economy.
“Our aim is to offer our clients the opportunity to update their machinery and enhance plant productivity in line with a more eco-friendly business model,” said Giorgio Critelli, Area Manager at Bausano. “The Industry 5.0 transition is not limited to technological innovation but presupposes a genuine cultural change. Bausano is proud to promote this new paradigm through concrete actions aimed at supporting companies in today’s competitive global scenario.”
