Arburg's fourth Sustainability Report
In the fourth edition of the Sustainability Report, Arburg provides a wealth of interesting facts and figures about it, its values and its successful sustainability activities in 2023. This year, the Lossburg-based company is also publishing a sustainability report in accordance with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Standards for the first time, enabling Arburg's extensive activities to be compared internationally.
The reports document the successes of the "arburgGREENworld" program, a framework within which the company aims to achieve sustainability through important goals such as resource efficiency, a reduced carbon footprint and a circular economy. One of Arburg's main objectives is to significantly reduce the carbon footprint in plastics processing through sustainable production and products, and to return plastic to the material cycle after use.
In recent years, heat recovery, the intensive use of photovoltaics, wind power and geothermal energy, and the exclusive use of regional, green electricity have helped to establish a 100% sustainable energy management system. Remarkable figures also demonstrate just how sustainably Arburg operates throughout the entire company:
- 74% of all waste generated in 2023 was recycled as part of its efforts to achieve a circular economy;
- rainwater collected in a number of cisterns accounted for 20.5% of total water consumption in 2023;
- in 2023, Arburg's electricity mix had an 88% smaller carbon footprint than the German electricity mix. In the same year, 15% of its renewable energy was self-generated;
- the company is certified five times over in accordance with ISO 9001, 14001, 29993, 50001 and 27001 for quality, environment, energy, training and IT security;
- Arburg continues to be rated with an above-average "B" by the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP); in addition, the greenhouse gas reduction targets for 2030 in Scopes 1, 2 and 3 that the company is pursuing as part of its climate strategy have been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi);
- with a Gold Medal from Ecovadis, Arburg has made it into the top five per cent worldwide in the industry;
- between 2010 and 2023, these and many other measures saved a total of over 125,000 metric tonnes of CO2 emissions.
