A plastic recycling hub in Porto Marghera
An investment of 34 million euros, of which 22 million is allocated to plant equipment and 12 million to infrastructure and construction works, an estimated completion timeline of around 24 months, and approximately 100 new jobs once fully operational: these are the key figures of the project to establish a new plastic recycling facility in Porto Marghera (Venice, Italy). The initiative is being promoted by Eco+Eco, a company belonging to the Gruppo Veritas, which plans to locate the plant within the port authority’s jurisdiction in the former Alcoa area.
Authorised under the ZLS (Simplified Logistics Zone) procedure – a framework designed to facilitate new productive investments in the Port of Venice through streamlined procedures and reduced lead times – the project is considered fully aligned with the objectives of circular economy development and industrial regeneration of the area. The facility will occupy approximately 41,000 square metres and will feature production units, storage and handling areas, as well as office and service spaces. It will enable the recovery and recycling of plastic materials into secondary raw materials to be reintroduced into production cycles, thereby reducing the consumption of virgin resources and supporting the environmental sustainability of industrial activities in the region.
The new industrial site will not only contribute to the circular economy but will also be distinguished by a strong focus on environmental and energy sustainability. The roof of the main warehouse will be equipped with a 500 kW photovoltaic system, while the remaining structures will feature extensive green roofs to enhance thermal insulation, manage rainwater and mitigate the effects of the urban “heat island” phenomenon. Last but not least, from the perspective of integrated logistics, the operation will leverage existing infrastructure, and the site’s location will facilitate the transport of materials by sea, both inbound and outbound.
