Manually operated gear screen changers
The solutions presented by BD Plast at the K 2013 fair included a manually operated screen changer belonging to the BDLG range, driven by a series of geared wheels. The device incorporates special solutions such as safety protections for moving parts (sliding plate) and an elbow integrated into the delivery side of the screen changer itself.
The particular design of the BDLG screen changer's delivery assembly makes it possible to directly connect the extrusion sleeves, thus eliminating the need for expensive components such as adaptors, elbows and related heating elements and, as a result, reducing the installed load. This peculiar characteristics have been exploited, for example, in a 5-layer blown film production plant. Downstream of each extruder a BDLG screen changer was installed, featuring an elbow integrated into the output assembly, thus obtaining an extremely compact design in terms of both overall dimensions and number of elements needed in order to assemble the extrusion melt pipes in the several configurations available.
The safety protections of the breaker plate provide a space-saving design with aesthetic properties which are unusual for this kind of product but, most importantly, they raise the safety level of this type of screen changer which, due to its simplicity and its manual operation, typically do not feature any protection. These protections are also available on the BDL manual screen changers and can be retrofitted on existing screen changers.
