Filled linear polyethylene for rotomoulding
Some coloured LLDPE formulations, containing a mineral filler, intended for rotational moulding have been introduced on the market. The filler used in this case is calcium carbonate (CaCO3), with percentage varying from 7 to 30% depending on the end-use applications. These products, powdered and ready to process, are said to impart sensible improvements both to the final item, such as greater stiffness and impact resistance, and to the rotomoulding cycle, such as energy savings and process time reduction. These news have generated substantial technical interest, which led to study more in depth these aspects, preparing some coloured products, filled with CaCO3, with the target to evaluate the inorganic filler effects on the performances of final articles and to understand the reasons of these changes.
