Bank of Canada chooses plastics

Bank of Canada has announced that, in 2011, a new series of bank notes, printed on polymeric material, will be circulating. The new notes have innovative security features and will significantly increase protection against counterfeiting. It is well-known that polymer material lasts longer than the cotton paper currently in use, thus permitting lower production costs and environmental impact. In fact plastic bank notes last around four times as long and can be easy recycled, as pointed out by the Reserve Bank of Australia that, between 1992 and 1996, progressively aintroduced them, for the first time in the world, to replace the original ones.
