Appliances in Turkey
According to data recently released by the Turkish Association of white appliance producers, the sector's output reached almost 8.6 million units in the first half of the current year, growing by 18% in comparison with the same period in 2009. The domestic market absorbed 29% of production whilst the remaining quota was exported, and foreign sales increased by 14%. These figures are significant because the appliance sector is one of the most important fields of application for plastics.
Export of plastics and rubber machinery to Turkey from major manufacturing countries (Germany, Italy and China as well) has suffered a steady decline across the past three years while local production has grown constantly. According to the trade Association Pagev, there are some 650 machinery, equipment and mould manufacturers in Turkey (150 of whom provide "core machinery"); over 50% of companies are small, employing less than 10 workers.
Some years ago, Assocomaplast contributed to establishing - in cooperation with Pagev and the Italian Trade Commission - a training centre in Gebze, in the Asiatic region of Turkey. Italian machinery and equipment was installed at the centre for use in the practical sessions on plastics processing technologies, devoted to students of the vocational school. The training centre is available to Assocomaplast members for meetings, customer demos, technical seminars and other promotional events.
