The next military helicopters manufactured by Agusta Westland (Anagni, Italy) will take off thanks to the blades in composite materials produced by an innovative automatic plant manufactured by Persico (Nembro, Italy). It is an important order for a plant that comes from the research and development of the four divisions of the company: automotive, rotational, nautical and engineering. A similar helicopter will be provided as well to US President Barack Obama.
Persico - with the Terenzio brand, recently acquired, that has a long tradition in carbon-fibre processing plants - has been awarded the order among some important international competitors, thanks to its capability to provide turn-key services, from prototyping to moulds and machine manufacturing, and its availability to assist customers in developing and performing complex projects.
The plant - that is the biggest after two previous smaller ones installed in the latest years - is capable to produce 25-m composite blades for Agusta Westland military helicopters and has a complete system for managing and controlling core processing parameters such as pressures and mould temperatures, besides an active control of the parallelism of the platens. These features are extremely important for processing expensive materials such as composites, to produce hi-tech components where absolute precision and accurate quality are essential issues.
