The Apinat Bio biodegradable compound by API has been adopted by DLM, a specialist manufacturer of caps for hydrodynamic and hydropneumatic applications, in order to realise a new type of cap for the protection of quick couplings.
These caps protect the delicate hydraulic connections in the hydrodynamic systems of tractors and earthmovers against earth, rain and possible damage. Traditionally, these caps are made from PVC and SEBS-based compounds, which, for undefined periods of time, are required to display good UV, temperature and weather resistance. Since caps often fall to the ground during use, becoming a possible source of environmental pollution, DLM decided to create a line of low environmental impact products, using 100% biodegradable material that can be completely and harmlessly absorbed into the soil.
Therefore, API has developed a material that can be processed using the same injection machines and moulds normally used with PVC and SEBS-based compounds, and that can guarantee the same performance levels as these materials. This was achieved by developing a special Apinat Bio formula, modifying the rheological properties of the base material and altering the relative composition of the constituents.
