An important group operating in the field of residential, commercial and sport floorings with 15 manufacturing sites all over the world asked Tria to supply a highly-wear resistant system for the grinding of its plastic scrap. The customer needed to grind large amounts of material with a very high content of abrasive additives, up to 65%.
In detail, this company was looking for the possibility to grind large quantities of PVC and mineral fibres in the form of sheets, reels and "cut-outs." Furthermore, it was necessary to ensure: an output rate of 4,000 kg/h with a grid featuring holes with a diameter of 8 mm, a time interval of 250 hours between two consecutive blade sharpening cycles and an average energy requirement lower than half of the rated power of the motor.
Considering all these factors, Tria delivered a 150-90 GR pelletiser equipped with 7 rotating blades and 3 fixed counterblades, a 1540 x 870 mm grinding chamber, a rotor with a diameter of 800 mm and installed power of 200 kW. The grinding chamber features an internal coating consisting of screwed and interchangeable anti-wear sheets, with 500 HRC hardness, while the shaft and structure in contact with the material underwent a specific chemical hardening treatment to prevent wear.
The pelletiser successfully passed the acceptance tests regarding the hourly output rates and the blade wear in the preset interval and, after about 4 months in operation with 65% filled materials, no signs of wear were detected. The user also noticed an excellent quality of the regrind in comparison with the replaced plant.
