On September 25, The Society of Plastic Engineers (SPE) has appointed Russell Broome as its new Managing Director. Broome has almost a quarter century of experience in the plastics industry. He began his career as a plastics engineer focused on product design, manufacturing, and project management. This led to roles in sales and marketing, as well as global business development, with LNP Engineering Plastics, GE Plastics, and PolyOne. Most recently he worked as an engineer in a purchasing function focused on strategic sourcing for plastics at TE Connectivity.
Broome is a long-term and honored service member of SPE with 20 years of volunteer leadership, ultimately serving as President of the Society in 2011-2012.
“Russell will be instrumental in implementing and enhancing the changes and improvements SPE has initiated in the last two years”, said SPE CEO Wim De Vos. “I am delighted that we have found an experienced manager who comes from the industry and knows the Society well”.
He added that Broome will focus on North American operations by providing support to the Society’s Sections and Divisions and attracting more young plastics professionals.
“With a strong new Managing Director based in North America, a CEO operating from Europe, and myself being from Asia, we can continue our international expansion and strive towards the vision of SPE being the global ‘go-to’ place for plastics professionals around the world,” said current SPE President Vijay Boolani, who is based in Mumbai, India.
