Contest to stimulate training, innovation and talent in industrial robotics

The initial phase of the ABB RobotStudio Cup 2026 promoted by ABB has just concluded, officially marking the start of the journey that will bring students and teachers from across Italy and abroad together in ABB Robotics' leading educational competition. This year the contest evolves in name, making the transition from the well-established ABB RoboCup and placing RobotStudio at its centre – ABB's leading software for simulation and offline programming of industrial robots, now increasingly widespread in educational pathways.

The 2026 edition of the initiative will take place on 12 and 13 May, once again in Bergamo (Italy), featuring two days of technical trials, challenges, meetings and exchanges between students, teachers and professionals from the industrial world. Over 70 institutes will be involved, including secondary schools, higher technical institutes and universities, confirming the central role that ABB Robotics plays in supporting the development of digital and technological skills required by the ongoing industrial transition. Alongside the global competition dedicated to secondary schools, RobotStudio Cup Junior returns for the second time – the format designed to introduce lower secondary school students to robotics.

The participation of middle schools from the region confirms ABB Robotics' commitment to being present in educational pathways from the youngest age groups, fostering early and informed career guidance. Through dedicated trials, educational tools and discussion sessions led by ABB experts, students will have the opportunity to discover first-hand what it means to work with robots and digital technologies; learn about new professions and fields of study; develop transversal skills such as collaboration, problem-solving and creativity; and begin to envision their own pathway to building the future.

ABB RobotStudio Cup maintains the original spirit of the competition: promoting talent, creativity and teamwork. At the same time, the 2026 edition strengthens ties with the ABB Robotics Education Lab ecosystem, the programme dedicated to bringing new generations closer to the skills required by industry. The use of 3D simulation, constantly growing in technical education, represents a concrete bridge between the world of school and the factory of the future. With this initiative, ABB renews its commitment to offer young people professional tools of industrial standard; create direct connections with experts and companies; generate opportunities for growth and guidance; and bring to schools a culture of innovation that is accessible, concrete and inclusive. ABB RobotStudio Cup is not just a competition: it is a pathway that unites education, technology and vision, creating fertile ground for the skills of the future.
