The Italian "Rubber Valley": where rubber moulding is at home

A specialist manufacturer of moulds for rubber parts, ORP Stampi organised a joint open house together with Engel at its headquarters in Viadanica (near Bergamo, Italy), in the heart of the so-called Italian “Rubber Valley”. For the occasion, Engel supplied two injection moulding machines: a victory 120 LIM and a flexseals 300. Other partners of the event were Universal Robots, which provided the cobot installed on the victory 120 LIM press, Dopag, supplier of the material feed pump, UTP Vision with its quality control systems, and Wacker for the raw material.

The three-day event aimed at demonstrating the ability of ORP Stampi as a manufacturer of moulds for processing liquid silicone thanks to its almost 40 years’ experience, as underlined by the company’s CEO Aurelio Brevi, remembering that ORP Stampi was founded on May 20, 1980. For this purpose, during the open house, bottle caps for wine and sparkling wine were moulded on the victory 120 LIM press equipped with a two-cavity mould built specifically for this task, while the finished parts were demoulded by the top entry cobot.

The victory 120 LIM hydraulic injection moulding machine stands out for its space-saving, tiebarless design - particularly useful, as Matteo Terragni, CEO of Engel Italia explained, when using a side entry Cartesian or anthropomorphic robot - a solution ensuring the perfect platen parallelism required in the production of top-quality components, especially technical parts, medical items etc. Particularly worth of notice on this moulding machine were above all the ecodrive inside servo pump and the iQ Control system, both developed by Engel.

The ecodrive inside fixed-displacement servo pump proves particularly advantageous in terms of production costs as well as environmental impact, since it stops during the injection and moulding stages. The iQ Control system, on the other hand, makes it possible to perform single shots while monitoring the weight instead of the injected material, much to the benefit of production repeatability and consistency.
