Plenty of fillers with Comac

The newest entry in the Comac portfolio is an extrusion line designed for the production of polypropylene-based compounds containing up to 80% of mineral fillers. The system includes: a 48 diameter long co-rotating twin-screw extruder with a diameter of 135 mm, driven by a 1,050 kW water-cooled AC engine; two side-loading trays; a liquid ring die-face pelletiser. The solution comes complete with a system for the gravimetric blending of components and the automatic filling of the polymer (ground PP) and calcium carbonate. The throughput ranges from 4,000 to 5000 kg/h, depending on the end product requirements. In addition, Comac has developed a new barrel concept, introduced at the K 2013 fair, which turned out to be absolutely reliable and is now available as standard equipment.
The main benefits offered by these newly designed barrels, compared to the conventional versions, include: faster and cost effective maintenance intervention; possibility of disassembling and reassembling the barrels/bushes without using tools and without having to handle heavy parts; a set of spare parts for the whole barrel at a relatively low cost; more accurate temperature control by means of probes located very close to the internal surface in contact with the material processed; easier maintenance in case the cooling channels are clogged with limescale; consistent connection of all modules.
