Albis expands portfolio with Covestro Apec XT
Albis will distribute Covestro’s new Apec XT polycarbonate copolymer range, further expanding its portfolio of plastics designed for demanding environmental conditions. The product line offers exceptional impact resistance even at very low temperatures, combined with improved chemical resistance and optimized tribological properties.
Apec XT maintains high impact strength down to around -40 °C and remains mechanically stable even under prolonged exposure to cold environments. Additional benefits include flame retardancy, enhanced sliding and wear properties, and increased resistance to chemicals – key advantages for applications exposed to harsh environmental conditions, frequent cleaning processes, or contact with aggressive substances.
“By adding Apec XT, we are expanding our portfolio with solutions that deliver reliable performance in critical environments,” said Julian Wegner, Business Manager Technical Polymers at Albis. “For our customers, this opens up new opportunities in applications where durability and resistance are essential.”
Typical applications for Apec XT can be found in the telecommunications industry as well as in the electrical and electronics industries – for example in components used in radio towers, solar power modules, or other outdoor units exposed to very low temperatures and high UV radiation.
The material is also well suited for refrigerated and freezer environments, where conventional engineering polymers often struggle to maintain their impact strength. In addition, the new range offers advantages for applications in the healthcare and mobility sectors.
Christian Wilms, Covestro Global Copolymer Program Manager at Covestro, added: “Apec XT was specifically developed for operating conditions where conventional polycarbonates reach their limits. Through our collaboration with ALBIS, we can bring these solutions to the markets where robust materials are essential.”
