Thermoforming andmore besides
Comi, a manufacturer of machines and systems for thermoforming, is today a point of reference both for large multinationals and for smaller producers, especially in the refrigerator sector. As well as thermoforming systems, it also produces, through TechMill, a company acquired a few years ago, CNC machines that use various cutting technologies. To complete the activity carried out under the TechMill brand, Comi also plans to take over a company that produces different types of cutting machines to be used on materials other than plastic.
Comi's business strategy is thus to diversify its activities, even though thermoforming remains its core business. This is the thinking behind the start of a collaboration with a small company specialising in polyurethane foaming machines, acting as main contractor for a broader project, still in the field of refrigerators. At present white appliances - refrigerators, of course, washing machines, and other electrical household appliances - and, to a lesser degree, bathtubs account for 90% of Comi's turnover, most of which is generated abroad. "Crises should be seen as opportunities to improve and fill gaps left by those who are less farsighted. It is crucial to be able to look ahead," says Simone Sertori, who co-owns the company with Franco Ballabio.
