New production facility for Evonik
After a construction phase of little more than one year, Evonik Fibres, the Austrian subsidiary of the German Evonik Industries Group, officially opened its new production facility in Schörfling (Germany) on June 17, 2010. The new facility will allow the company to meet the growing demand for products in polyimide fibre worldwide, especially in Asia. Approximately half of the 66 employees currently working at the old site in Lenzing will move to the 8,000 sqm new facility over the next two years. Polyimide fibres are used in filter media for separating dust from hot flue gases in waste incineration plants, cement factories and coal-fueled power plants as well as in sealing materials, flame retardant clothing and thermal insulation materials. Compression-moulded parts made up of this material are used for applications that need low weight and low friction coefficient without the use of lubricants.
