Amaplast, Ucima and Giflex at MIMIT to study new business support instruments

A fruitful discussion to strengthen collaboration between industry associations and institutions for the benefit of Made in Italy packaging. This emerged on 25 September at the meeting held in Rome at the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy with the Head of Department for Enterprise Policy, Marco Calabrò, together with representatives from Amaplast (machinery and moulds for plastics and rubber), Giflex (flexible packaging) and Ucima (packaging and wrapping machinery).

The meeting represented an initial moment of constructive dialogue on structural challenges, sector requirements and the need to support investment in innovation. The industry delegation presented Italian packaging as an excellence in value, innovation and employment assurance, whilst also emphasising the need for incentives and measures towards environmental transition. The Ministry confirmed its commitment to studying new business support measures, including instruments that favour production plant revamping interventions.

The three associations welcomed the launch of this institutional collaboration, reaffirming the centrality of the packaging supply chain for Italian manufacturing industry and their availability to continue dialogue with the Ministry, as Massimo Margaglione, President of Amaplast, emphasised, stating that "MIMIT's openness to dialogue with our supply chain is an important signal from the Government to the sector's needs".

Satisfaction was also expressed by Alberto Palaveri, President of Giflex, who defined the meeting as important and fruitful for identifying common proposals and believes that "to accelerate the introduction of innovative packaging onto the market, in line with the PPWR, it is essential to redefine aid and incentives supporting effective industrial policies".

For Riccardo Cavanna, President of Ucima, dialogue is also necessary to remain competitive and keep the Made in Italy flag flying high, stating that "the packaging and wrapping machinery sector represents a pillar of our country and can make a decisive contribution in terms of innovation and sustainability, provided adequate support instruments for the required investments are available".

Whilst awaiting next steps, the invitation to join this alliance has also been extended to other associations, with the aim of strengthening a shared position for the supply chain and giving even greater institutional weight to the sector's needs.
