Bi-oriented film doubles in India

By 2016, India is expected to achieve average yearly growth rates of 11.5% for BOPP film, 9.7% for cast film, 9% for coated film, and 8.9% for blown film. These are the forecasts for the Indian packaging film market publicized at the ElitePlus conference held in Mumbai on 25 and 26 September.

In 2016, the demand for biaxially-oriented film should reach 964,000 tons (compared to 560,000 in 2011) thanks to its gradual replacement of blown film, especially for non-food packaging, which should reach a level slightly above 700,000 tons. Cast film, on the other hand, is expected to stabilize at 32,000 tons.

India represents the world’s sixth-largest market for packaging in general, with a value of more than 24 billion dollars, and could rise to fourth place in the next few years. Plastic packaging could record growth rates of 20-25%. Currently some 48% of polymers (35% flexible and 13% rigid), 3 million tons, are used for this application.
