Axens, a technology licensor in the field of plastics circular economy for plastics, and Sorema, an international supplier of plants and technology for sorting, cleaning and mechanical processing plastic wastes, have announced a collaboration to provide integrated solutions for advanced (chemical and physical) plastic waste recycling. Thanks to this partnership, the two companies will be able to offer integrated and optimised solutions, maximizing both yield and revenues from waste raw materials to recycled plastic.

Axens is transforming the recycling of hard-to-process plastics by offering a suite of innovative, risk-free commercial technologies (TAC Process developed by Plastic Energy, followed by Axens’ Rewind Max and Rewind Mix processes) to obtain a recycled naphtha equivalent to petrochemical naphtha through the pyrolysis. This enables the production of food-grade recycled polyolefins. Additionally, the company markets the Rewind PET process, which can reliably recycle all types of PET waste into a high-quality, virgin-like, recycled PET, suitable for all PET applications including food-contact packaging or textiles. Sorema’s expertise in all the mechanical treatment operations of plastic waste will help optimising material preparation for advanced recycling units designed by Axens.

“Thanks to this cooperation with Sorema, we can now offer our customers recycling solutions that maximize the value of their plastic waste streams. This partnership highlights the possible and necessary synergies between mechanical and chemical recycling, serving the development of a true circular economy for plastics on a global scale”, Stéphane Fédou, Axens, Vice President of Axens for Plastic Circular Economy, said.

“This collaboration with Axens strengthens Sorema's position as the leading provider of comprehensive plastic recycling solutions. By integrating our expertise in mechanical processing with Axens' chemical recycling technologies, we continue to be a benchmark for innovation and efficiency in the sector”, Giuseppe di Capegna, CEO of Sorema, added.
