Simply rapid, with the electropermanent magnetic clamping

Available for machines of all tonnages, new or reconditioned, the Sympli electropermanent magnetic clamping system from SPD (an exhibitor at Plast 2015, hall 22) is designed to speed up mould change operations on injection presses. Flexibility, consistency and safety are the main advantages offered by this system in comparison with conventional clamping systems. The magnetic modules of the Sympli range are made up of quality Alnico and neodymium magnets set inside a sturdy steel frame. The magnets are arranged in a chessboard pattern by alternating the north and south poles. As a result the magnets  generate a clamping force within a second of being activated by an electronic device. The magnetic module then remains magnetised for as long as is necessary without needing a further energy supply. The magnetic force of the system remains unaltered and proportional to the number of poles covered by the mould. The use of square magnetic poles makes it possible to optimise the adhesive force of the mould, regardless of its size. Finally, the polar surface area of the system is, on average, 30% larger than that of competing products.

Unlike traditional clamping methods, Sympli generates a uniform force over the entire surface of the mould sub-plate, thus avoiding any tension and deformation. As a consequence, the mould preserves its mechanical features, while at the same time ensuring better quality and repeatability for the moulded parts. The system is suitable for all kinds of injection press platens provided with threaded holes or T-nuts, and allows the exploitation of the entire platen surface. Moulds are easily clamped regardless of their shape or size, and without needing to modify the sub-plate, even if this complies with QMC standards. The chessboard pattern of the module makes it possible to distribute the clamping force uniformly over its entire surface, improving its versatility. Regardless of the shape of the mould to be clamped, the magnetic flux will pass through it without any problems, reducing flux loss to a minimum and maximising the clamping force. As the modules are obtained from a single steel block, they provide extreme mechanical resistance. The epoxy resin coating ensures excellent insulation of the magnets, long-term durability of internals and a maximum contact temperature of 150° C.

Mould clamping is achieved in just a few seconds. The system considerably reduces the mould change time and simplifies clamping operations: mould alignment on the stationary platen with the injection moulding machine open; mould closing; activation of the Sympli system by key-switch; activation of the magnets by pressing simultaneously the “safe” button and the “mag” button of both the stationary and floating platens. In just a few seconds, the injection press is ready for operation.
